What is excessive daytime sleepiness?
Those suffering from Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS) find it very difficult to stay awake during the day. Memory, concentration problems and reduced productivity are all associated with this disorder.
How is it treated?
First, your physician needs to determine what is causing the EDS. A possible culprit may be irregular sleep hours (such as those who work long hours or switch between day and night shifts). Almost all sleep disorders can lead to EDS, which is why it is so important to be examined by a sleep specialist. Sleep apnea, sleep walking and insomnia can all lead to EDS. Patients may find relief with medication, change in sleep schedules or relaxation therapies.
